Descobri este livro por acaso, enquanto pesquisava um outro livro (que acabou por ficar para segundo plano após ter descoberto este). Assim que li a sinopse, fiquei curiosa e não consegui resistir

O livro, tal como a sinopse diz, centra-se em David, um jovem americano em Paris que, enquanto espera que a sua noiva regresse de Espanha, conhece Giovanni. Estes acabam por se envolverem e, assim que a sua noiva regressa, David vira as costas a Giovanni, o que leva a que este tome algumas decisões que o levarão à tragédia

Este livro explora temas como a identidade sexual, identidade de género e masculinidade. Um livro escrito nos anos 50 com temas ainda bastante pertinentes para a sociedade actual. Gostei imenso da forma como a história é contada e como estes temas são explorados. O final do livro deixou-me com um pequeno nó na garganta, mas adorei o livro e não mudaria nada nele. Tenho é pena que não se encontra este livro traduzido para português, bem como a grande maioria dos livros de Baldwin (só existe um livro traduzido). Fiquei bastante curiosa em relação aos restantes trabalhos do escritor e acredito que ainda irei adquirir outro livro dele este ano
